So whats involved ?

Hiring a boat really couldn't be easier.

Thank you for your enquiry to hire a boat from A B Sea Boat Rentals. Our aim is to see you on the water in Nelson or surrounding areas in a safe & modern boat you will truly enjoy.

 Our Rayglass 520 Legend’s are fully surveyed to carry 5 people and maintained to the highest standard for safe and trouble free boating. Ideal for a vast array of water sports including skiing, diving, fishing, scalloping or simply taking the family out for a day on the water anywhere around the Top of the South. 

Easily towed behind a 2-litre car, either pick up from our base in Nelson. Alternatively we can arrange delivery to your favourite location.

 Marine surveyed our boats come with an impressive array of safety equipment. Just to name a few here are some of the benefits to you. Life Jackets, Emergency locator beacon, Flares, Marine radio, Oars, First aid kit. Also fitted for your pleasure and convenience: Fish finder, canopy and Ski pole.  

        Flexibility

As we operate from home, we are able to offer REAL flexibility.  With prior notice you can pick up the boat as early as 6 AM and drop off as late as 9 PM.  A full day really is a full day, not just 8 hours.  Depending on availability, you may be able take the boat on the evening before, great for that weekend away.

    Self Drive Criteria

To hire the boats no license is required, however you do need sufficient knowledge and experience.

Ø      Age 20 years and over  (proof of age maybe required)

Ø      Can read a nautical chart

Ø      Understand the collision avoidance regulations

Ø      Know and abide by the Water Recreation Regulations

Ø      Experience aboard similar craft

Ø      Agree to the conditions of hire on the charter booking form.

A comprehensive briefing will be given prior to departing in which we can cover a lot of the above if required.

    Briefing prior to departure

The time required for a briefing before departure will depend on prior boating experience, and the area in which you intend to take the boat. Generally one hour for a low experienced hirer to a few minutes for the well seasoned boatie will be all that is required. Remember your safety is our aim.

    Areas of Operation

In general the areas of operation are Tasman Bay (which includes Abel Tasman National Park)  Golden Bay,  Marlborough sounds and the Nelson Lakes. The ships manual carried on the boats point out the areas in greater detail.

    Bond

A security bond of $500 in the form of a Visa / MasterCard imprint or cash will be taken prior to hiring the boat.  Any loss or damage to the boat or its equipment up to the value of $500 will be deducted from this security bond. The bond is fully refundable if not required.

     Insurance

Comprehensive insurance taken out by A B Sea Boat Rentals Ltd. covers you the hirer for any loss or damage to the boat or its equipment as well as third party cover. If required, the excess of $500 for this cover will be paid from your security bond.

     Fuel/Oil

Fuel /Oil costs are met by the hirer. The boats are supplied full of fuel/Oil and are to be returned full.  No pre mixing required, as our modern engines are oil injected. We have purchased bulk oil & supply it at cost $15.00 a litre. Additional fuel tanks are available if required (supplied empty, returned empty)

If required we can arrange delivery of the boat to the location of your choice. This will, however, incur a charge as out lined below. Please don’t hesitate to call if your location is not mentioned for a price.
