Diverse Boat Company has 3 Stabicraft 1650 Fisher boats available for hire are Valkyri, Vicugna and Vixen. The Stabicraft 1650 won the Trade a boat Readers Choice Awards in 2013 - Read article here.

Our Stabicraft 1650 fisher are fully surveyed to carry 5 people aged 5 years and over. All Diverse Boat Company boats are maintained to the highest standards, so you can enjoy trouble free and safe boating.

Each boat is equipped with life jackets, emergency locator beacon, marine radio, oars, fire extinguisher and first aid kit. The boat also has a fish finder, sun canopy, rocket launcher and a fully detachable ski pole. The boat will be clean and have a full tank of fuel.

 Practical Power boat training  - Improve your confidence on the water  -

 

Practical Power boat Training 

Our comprehensive 16 hour power boat handling course is for anyone who wants to learn or improve their boating skills. Improve your confidence to safely operate a power boat. No previous experience is required. Set over 2 days the course encompasses the following:

 

Prerequisites: None 

The course includes:


• Trip planning
• Safety checks – Essential items that every boat should carry  
• Navigation – Charts, tides and weather
• Rules of the road – Right of way, buoys and beacons
• Emergencies – Preventing and dealing with breakdowns and incidents
• Correct use of a VHF Radio 

On the water skills:


• Safety checks and boat prep
• Launching and recovering on a trailer
• Slow speed manoeuvring
• High speed manoeuvring
• Turning vessel in a restricted space
• Docking and use of spring lines
• Anchoring and picking up a mooring
• Emergency scenarios including Person overboard recovery and engine failure
• Retrieval of vessel, washdown and equipment checks 

 A compressive boat manual is included in the course fee and a discount voucher for your first boat hire from The Diverse Boat Company. 

The 2 day course costs $860 per person inc 15% GST. A 50% deposit is required to secure your place on the course. Space is limited to 4 people per course. Please note a minimum of three people will be required to run a course.

Courses run from 1st May to the 30th September, at weekends. Booking is essential. During your experience you will gain essential boating knowledge whilst cruising the water to practice your skills. If you are interested in the opportunity to learn whilst on the water and would like further details please contact us via our booking form.

Requirements for the course: 

Comfortable warm, wind and waterproof clothing. Non slip footwear.  

Cancellations:

As the course is weather dependant there may be cancellations due to adverse weather conditions. However, we will endeavour to reschedule the training course at a mutually agreeable date should this occur. See our Terms & Conditions cancellations policy. 

Our experienced course instructor: 

Milo Coldren, began power boating as a teenager in a sea rescue unit on Canada's Pacific coast leading to a career in SAR and Emergency Management. He has worked commercially, competitively and recreationally on the sea since, exploring remote areas of the globe such as Tierra del Fuego, the Falklands, Galapagos and Pitcairn islands. He is a commercial skipper, New Zealand Coastguard Boating Education tutor & examiner, RYA powerboat instructor and ASA Sailing instructor.

Terms and Conditions

The Diverse Boat Company agrees to charter the vessel to the Hirer and or Skipper on the understanding that the hirer Only operates the vessel within the designated areas contained in the Ships Manual. 

The Hirer and or Skipper agree to personal information collected by the Diverse Boat Company Ltd being released, when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our policies, or protect ours or others rights, property or safety.

The Hirer and or Skipper agrees to hiring the boat on the terms and conditions laid down by the Diverse Boat Company Ltd which are set out below. 

The minimum age for the Skipper is 20 years of age you will need to provide proof of identity and age.

The Hirer and or Skipper will be asked to sign a copy of the Diverse Boat Company Ltd Terms and Conditions. 

Skippers Responsibilities

The Hirer and or Skipper shall be responsible for:

Making payment to the Diverse Boat Company Ltd in accordance with the Payment Details prior to commencement of the charter.

Shall Advise the Diverse Boat Company Ltd immediately should the vessel be damaged or require repair or salvage.

Shall Immediately return the vessel to the Diverse Boat Company Ltd at an agreed place or the place of delivery if the vessel is damaged.

Shall at or before the date and time in the Charter Details return the vessel to the Diverse Boat Company Ltd at the place and delivery set out in the delivery instructions.

Shall inform the Diverse Boat Company Ltd of any significant changes to the original planned trip.

Shall pay for all petrol used in the vessel during the charter period. Only use appropriate fuel as determined in the ships manual, and maintain these at the appropriate levels, to ensure safe vessel operation at all times. Return the vessel with all tote tanks full. The Diverse Boat Company will charge $75.00 to refuel tanks if conditions aren’t met.

Shall be in charge of the boat at all times and ensure that the number of people on board does not exceed the legal capacity allowed. 

Everyone shall follow Maritime Regulations at all times. 

Return and remove rubbish from the boat and dispose of appropriately.

The Diverse Boat Company Ltd reserves the right to charge for late returns. A normal day hire is 7am-7pm. Within this time frame you need to allow approx 1 hour for breifing and additional travel time to and from launch site.The time frame remains the same if we are delivering and collecting the boat. Exceptions to this are circumstances beyond your control. In these instances the Diverse Boat Company ltd reserves the right to treat each circumstance with discretion to determine whether or not a charge will be levied.

If the boat is returned to 52 Marsden Road Stoke Nelson after 7pm a late fee will be incurred at a rate of $100 per half hour. If the Diverse Boat company Ltd has had no contact with the Hirer by 7pm or 2 hours after prearranged off the water time EMERGENCY PROCEDURES WILL BE INITIATED. The Hirer will be liable for any costs arising from this.

1)The Skipper shall while operating or in charge of the vessel remain sober and free from the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicating substance.

Not allow smoking by any person on board the vessel.

The Hirer and the Skipper MUST ENSURE that Life Jackets are worn at all times by all persons whilst on board the vessel.

Not operate or permit the vessel to be operated in any race, speed test or competition.

Not allow the vessel to propel or tow any other vessel or object other than those supplied by the Diverse Boat Company ltd.

No firearms allowed.

Any passenger under the age of 18 years is to be supervised by the Skipper or Adult crew member.

All equipment supplied By the Diverse Boat Company Ltd is used by Charter Party at there own risk.

2)The Hirer( and the Skipper if different from the Hirer) shall:

Ensure that proper and reasonable care is taken in the use, handling, mooring and storage of the vessel. Operating the vessel in darkness is prohibited, UNLESS there is an Emergency or the Hirer and Skipper have the Express permission of the Diverse Boat Boat Company Ltd.

Not Allow the VHF Radio to be used for transmission Other than in an Emergency. Unless the user is a licensed VHFRadio Operator.

Not sub-let or hire the vessel to any other person or organisation. Or allow the vessel to be used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward.

3) The Charterer hereby indemnifies the Diverse Boat Company Ltd from and against all claims, actions, liabilities and losses which the Diverse Boat Company ltd shall or may incur, (including its legal expenses on a Solicitor/Client basis), and in respect of the Diverse Boat Company Ltd shall not receive payment in full from any insurance cover arranged by the Diverse Boat Company Ltd arising out of:

Any accident , loss or incident happening while the Hirer and or the Skipper is in possession of the vessel.

Any damage injury or loss if the Hirer and or Skipper is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If the Hirer and or Skipper operate the vessel in an unseaworthy or unsafe condition that has arisen during the period of charter.

When the Hirer and or Skipper operate the vessel in any race, speed test or competition.

When such damage, injury or loss arises by the reckless, negligent or wilful action of the Hirer and or Skipper.

Where the vessel is seized, confiscated or fined as a result of the vessel being used in any  illegal or dangerous manner, or for any other reason. Or by fishing in any prohibited or restricted area.

The Hirer and or Skipper has not disclosed a medical condition and or medication that may cause safety concerns or increase the likelihood of a medical incident and or accident. 

4) The Charterer and Hirer and or Skipper, using the vessel in accordance with these conditions of Hire, shall be fully indemnified under our comprehensive insurance, which covers you the hirer, for any loss or damage to the boat as well as third party cover. The Hirer and or Skipper shall be liable for the excess of $1,500 from the bond.

*Note; The exception to this is if the Hirer and or Skipper causes damage during transit to or from the water. In this case the driver/ owner of the vehicle towing the boat will be responsible for any insurance claims.

5) In respect of the Bond. The Hirer authorises the Diverse Boat Company Ltd to deduct any monies payable by the Hirer in respect of:

A full daylight inspection has been completed.

In the case of any damage and a professional valuation needs to be obtained.

That anything less than a full tank upon return will result in a full payment for fuel being taken from the bond ( at whatever rate the fuel is at the time), and an additional administration charge of $75.00 will be charged  to cover time and inconvenience.

Loss, non return or damage of additionally hired equipment from the Diverse Boat Company ltd. Will result in a full retail price replacement fee being charged for each item not returned or lost.

6) Cancellations. The Diverse Boat Company Ltd reserves the right to cancel a charter:

If for a specific reason a vessel cannot be made available for charter.

Due to adverse weather conditions.

If the Diverse Boat Company ltd at the hire commencement are not satisfied with the ability of the Hirer and or Skipper to handle, navigate and respect the hire vessel.

If at any time during the hire period the Hirer and or Skipper actions endanger themselves, the vessel or a third party. In this instance the Diverse Boat Company Ltd reserve the right to terminate the charter without refund and recall the vessel to its launching ramp for collection.

In instances where the hirer cancels a charter the Diverse Boat Company Ltd reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee. The following will apply

Any time up to 60 days before booking a full refund less $100.00 admin fee will apply.

Between 60 -30 days the hirer will forfeit their deposit equivalent to 1/3rd of the entire hire cost.

Between 30-14 days the hirer will forfeit the equivalent of 2/3rd of the entire hire cost.

Less than 14 days the hirer will forfeit the entire hire cost. However, The Diverse Boat Company will endeavour to negotiate an alternative hire period to the same value.

h)*Note In cases where the Diverse Boat Company Ltd is not informed of cancellation, or the Hirer does not arrive to collect the boat at hire commencement, all monies paid will be deemed non refundable.

 

Conditions of Payment

Bond details

a ) A security bond of $1,500 is required nz prior to arriving, or on the day of arrival of the hire. This is taken as card imprint or cash.

b) The security bond will only be processed if there is damage or loss to the boat or equipment.

c) If the boat or any hire equipment has been damaged the hirer will be notified and the costs be will be charged to (if applicable) your credit card or deducted from the Security Bond paid.

d) In the case of major damage the hirer will be notified of the costs that will be charged to (if applicable) your credit card or deducted from the Security Bond paid.

e) The Diverse Boat Company Ltd reserves the right to charge for late returns. In instances where boats are returned more than 2 hours after due time the Hirer will be charged a full days hire. Exceptions to this are circumstances beyond your control. In these instances the Diverse Boat Company ltd reserves the right to treat each circumstance with discretion to determine whether or not a charge will be levied.
